The National Weather
Service has confirmed that an EF-1 tornado touched down Saturday night in
Burlington County, reaching wind speeds of 90 mph.
On Sunday, yards and
streets were littered with trees and debris. There was some structural damage
on Racehorse Lane in Springfield Township – but no injuries were
reported.
Resident James Chin
and his family rushed to their basement when he feared the tornado was directly
over them.
“Very fortunate nothing went through a
window and no one hurt,” he told News 12.
The damage path was
about one-quarter of a mile long as the storm rolled through the development,
which is surrounded mostly by farmland.
The strength of the storm was matched by the strength of the neighbors,
who helped each other clean up after what they say is the worst storm here in
years.
