A northern New Jersey woman who was run over by a car and dragged 30 feet died roughly eight hours after the crash occurred.
NJ Advance Media reports 48-year-old Gertrudis Pena, of Guttenberg, died at Jersey City Medical Center after being struck Tuesday morning.
Sheriff Frank Schillari says Pena was found conscious but unresponsive in the northbound lane of Bergenline Avenue. She was rushed to the hospital and listed in "extremely critical condition" for most of the day.
The driver, 81-year-old Rutherford resident Dominick Azzolini, was making a left turn when he hit Pena. Officials say Azzolini had a green light, but Pena had the right of way within the crosswalk.
Azzolini was issued summonses for careless driving, failure to yield to a pedestrian and improper turning.
