A North Bergen man is preparing to run the New York City Marathon on Sunday after battling cancer.
Francisco Vidal, known by some as Javy, ran his first New York City Marathon in 2013. A year later, doctors discovered that he had prostate cancer.
By then, Vidal had already begun preparing for this year's marathon. Despite his diagnosis, he continued training. Vidal says his family gave him the strength he needed to fight.
"He's very motivated," says Vidal's wife, Stella. "In his heart, he's strong. So we're all here for him. We're supporting him and we're all proud of him."
Vidal says his cancer is now in remission and he's ready to run again, hoping to set a personal record on Sunday.
