Five beaches across Ocean County have been closed to swimmers due to water quality issues.
High levels of bacteria are the reason, and the rains from Henri can also be blamed. All the runoff in the rivers and the bay lowers the water quality, and according to the DEP, levels are still too high to safely swim.
Here are the beaches:
The Reese Avenue Bay Beach in Lavallette.
25th Street Bay Beach in Barnegat Light.
Beachwood Beach West River Beach in Beachwood.
East Beach Station Avenue River Beach in Pine Beach.
Hancock Avenue Bay Beach in Seaside Heights.
The affected beaches are not on the ocean side. If two consecutive samples collected at a bathing beach exceed the water quality standard, swimming will be closed. Beach closings remain in effect until samplings indicate bacteria levels are again below the standard.
