There is currently a debate in Monmouth County over a feral cat colony.
The township of Manalapan wants the felines evicted from a professional complex called "Bridge Plaza," where about a dozen cats live in a wooded area.
The township says a preschool on the property complained that the cats soiled a sandbox in its playground and frightened the children. Manalapan's health officer says the township is obligated to remove the cats based on the complaint.
He says he'll work with animal groups that have been caring for the animals to get them relocated. However, he says the township will be forced to trap them and bring them to an animal shelter in Helmetta if they remain. He says the feral cats could be euthanized if they're not adopted.
