A new campaign is kicking off in New Jersey to encourage drivers to slow down.
?Obey the Signs or Pay the Fines? begins on July 1 and lasts for a month. A state grant is allowing local police departments to place officers on approximately 80 hours of overtime strictly for traffic enforcement. In Morris County, more than a dozen police departments are taking part in the crackdown on lead-foot drivers.
Police say people caught speeding could face fines ranging from $80 to $260. Last year, police in four counties issued nearly 6,400 speeding tickets during the one-month period.
