Residents across New Jersey paid tribute to the country's fallen soldiers this Memorial Day.
In Englewood, residents gathered as veterans read the names of the 107 men and women from the town who lost their lives fighting for the United States. Many who attended the ceremony say this is what Memorial Day should be about.
"Take a moment of silence and remember every man and woman that has given up their life for your freedom and the choice they made," said Englewood Police Sgt. Oscar Hernandez.
Similar ceremonies were held across New Jersey, including at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Holmdel. Hundreds of New Jersey residents gathered there to honor the fallen.
Noreen Nigota's loved one is among those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
"It's not about cookouts, hamburgers and hot dogs," she says. "It's about the men who sacrificed their lives."
The entire stretch of the Sea Girt boardwalk was adorned with American flags, another way residents marked the day.
