New Jersey voters went to the polls Tuesday to close the curtain and pull the levers that will decide who makes the cut for November?s elections.
The biggest names on the ballot belong to U.S. Senate nominees Democrat Bob Menendez, who is running against fellow Democrat James D. Kelly, Jr., largely considered a token candidate who ran unsuccessfully against Jon Corzine in last year's Democratic gubernatorial primary. Republican Tom Kean Junior is expected to beat his rival, financial analyst John Ginty, who is running for public office for the first time.
The battle for seats in the House of Representatives, meanwhile, is a hotly contested race between West New York Mayor Albio Sires and Perth Amboy Mayor Joseph Vas. They?re both running in the democratic primary for Senator Menendez?s former position in the 13th Congressional District, which includes parts of Hudson, Essex, Union and Middlesex counties.
The polls close at 8 p.m.
