New Jersey Transit showed off one of 175 new commuter buses that will soon be on the road.
NJ Transit has a goal of renewing the entire fleet by 2031.
The new buses are lower to the ground making it easier to board.
The buses have all new LED lighting, padded seats with USB charging ports and they have cleaner diesel engines.
The cost for the new buses is primarily being paid for with federal funding.
Kris Kolluri, CEO of NJ Transit says, these are for the half-million people who ride buses daily.
“They want a good clean, reliable bus system. When we say by 2031, every single bus in our system will be modernized we really mean it,” said Kris Kolluri.
The current buses on the street are 2008 models- most of which have 600,000 miles on the odometer.
