"We found the discussion to be constructive and look forward to continuing negotiations in good faith,” NJ Transit CEO Kris Kolluri wrote in a statement. “To respect the collective bargaining process, we will not be sharing any additional details publicly at this time."

B.L.E.T. officials confirmed that a meeting took place, but declined to comment further.

The union for the engineers is calling for a higher salary for its members. A deadline to make a deal is midnight on May 16.

NJ Transit has announced various contingency plans in the event a deal cannot be reached by the deadline.
