An Atlantic County teen who recently won a junior state fishing championship is also giving back to the New Jersey community.
AJ Elmore, of Egg Harbor, recently won the New Jersey Big Bass Jr. Fishing Championship by catching a 6-pound bass. He’s now gearing up for a road trip to Idaho for the National Championship.
Elmore won’t share where he caught the fish, but says that he did have to prove that he caught it.
“When you sign up to the tournament, the tournament sends you a packet of a bunch of different stuff, but the main thing is a ruler so the tournament knows that the fish is actually that size,” he says. “So, you take a few pictures of the fish length, girth and you send it to the tournament."
Elmore also participates in a program that teaches kids from inner-city communities how to fish and to get them out onto the water. He also helps to pick up thousands of pounds of garbage in and around rivers in New Jersey.
Atlantic City Nissan is partially sponsoring Elmore and his team, by providing him with a pickup truck to drive to Idaho. But he says that he could always use more sponsors to help fund the trip.
More information about Elmore can be found on his website.
