Soaring temperatures and humidity made for a lazy and hot Saturday across New Jersey.
Many sought refuge from the heat at the beach and found a nice breeze and some shade under umbrellas. Thanks to the scorching sun, Point Pleasant Beach broke the record for the number of rented beach umbrellas on one strip.
However, health experts say shade and a few dips in the ocean is not enough to keep people hydrated in the heat. They advise drinking a lot of fluids, dressing in lightweight and light colored materials. Avoiding caffeine, alcohol and strenuous activities are also recommended.
