Ana Montero headed to Puerto Rico Thursday not only as the CEO of the American Red Cross in New Jersey, but also as a concerned family member.
Montero said she has family on the hurricane-ravaged island, and has not yet been in touch with some of them.
As for her work with the Red Cross, Montero has been down this road before and knows exactly how it works.
“Obviously, the first thing we want to do is make sure everybody is safe. So we let FEMA and emergency management do their work, and we work side-by-side with them. And as soon as it’s safe to do so, we canvass communities and we do some of the life sustaining work,” she explained.
Montero said her stay in Puerto Rico is open-ended.
