No criminal charges will be filed for a Pemberton police officer regarding the death of a suspect who died in a motorcycle crash in 2023, the New Jersey Attorney General's Office announced on Thursday.
Officials say police officer LaQuan Jett attempted to stop 41-year-old John Nutt, of Mount Laurel, after police received a 911 call alleging Nutt stole a motorcycle.
Jett located a motorcycle being driven by Nutt who had one passenger aboard, according to officials. They say when Jett attempted to stop the motorcycle in connection with the investigation, the motorcycle collided with an uninvolved minivan near the intersection of County Route 687 West and Davis Street.
Officials say Nutt died from the crash and the passenger, whose identity was not released, was seriously injured.
The passenger was airlifted to Cooper University Hospital in critical condition and was later released. The two occupants of the minivan declined medical treatment.
