NJ mayors say they may not comply with ICE raids
President Donald Trump's delay on immigration raids has ended and those living in the country illegally are now left waiting in fear.
The president says his administration will move forward "fairly soon" with their plans to deal with immigration.
Paterson Mayor Andre Sayegh, Newark Mayor Ras Baraka and others say they will refuse to enforce the operations and say those behind ICE raids are inhumane fear mongers.
"We feel this is unfair--we believe that and I stand by the attorney general's directive, which talks about trust with immigrants," Sayegh said.
He says, however, he will comply if criminality is involved.
Steven Rogers, President Trump's 2020 Campaign Adviser for New Jersey, says politicians who don't comply should be charged with obstructing justice.
HE says that the president has been very fair in dealing with immigration.
"The president has been very humane--he has given Congress an opportunity to do what they say they would be doing and that's to make reforms that would benefit every one," Rogers said.
Sayegh agrees that immigration reform needs to be made by both the president and the Congress.
The Trump administration's top official at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services said immigration authorities are ready to identify, detain and eventually deport approximately a million undocumented immigrants with pending removal orders.
