A bill designed to prevent public brawls during large group gatherings is now a law.

The law comes just days after several incidents of violence at large gatherings. Fights led to multiple arrests in Seaside Heights during the Memorial Day weekend holiday and pop-up parties turned violent at the Menlo Park Mall and at a Woodbridge carnival.

Under the new law, inciting a public brawl would be a fourth-degree crime that could result in up to 18 months in jail and a $10,000 fine.
