The FBI continues to probe rumors of an armed gathering outside the Trenton statehouse Sunday to protest the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden.
Members of the Coalition of New Jersey Firearm Owners say they do not, in any way, support the rumors or such a protest.
Trenton and other state capitals across the nation, as well as at the U.S. Capitol, are on alert leading up to the inauguration.
Rumors began to circulate online about statehouses nationwide being the focus of another, armed attack following last week’s attack on the Capitol in Washington, D.C.
Dan Grdovic, the acting president of the Coalition of New Jersey Firearm Owners, says his organization wants no part of the rumors, adding none of the state’s law-abiding gun owners would risk their freedoms by violating them in such a fashion.
“In New Jersey, I am 100% sure that none of our groups, none of our affiliated groups, none of the groups that we know of are involved in this, support it or even have an undercurrent of back door people who might say well, you know, we should do that,” says Grdovic. “I don’t see any of that happening here.”
Grdovic says his group is currently in litigation against the state of New Jersey as they continue to fight against what he calls draconian laws for legally carrying firearms. But he says promoting violence is something it would never do, especially while trying to pursue legal challenges and spending their own money in doing so.
Grdovic strongly believes any rumors of a possible gathering in Trenton Sunday are just that -- rumors.
