The New Jersey Forest Fire Service says it will be conducting a prescribed burn Friday afternoon at the Double Trouble State Forest.
The service implements the prescribed burning program to help in managing risk this forest fire season.
They say using fire as a tool in a controlled manner reduces risk and removes fuels that could contribute to wildfire start and spread. The program also keeps forests healthy and provides strategic areas for firefighters to manage wildfires during an incident.
The fire service says the burn is scheduled for 2 p.m. and that large smoke plumes may be visible and the fire's odor may permeate throughout the area.
