NJ 14-year-old accused of bringing handgun onto school bus; adult charged
Police say the firearm was not properly secured inside a home, allowing the juvenile to access it.

A 14-year-old boy from Mays Landing has been charged after police say he brandished a handgun at other students while riding home on a school bus in Hamilton Township.
The Hamilton Township Police Department said officers received a report of the incident on July 29 and immediately launched an investigation. The juvenile was arrested and taken to Harborfields, a youth detention center.
During the investigation, police determined the handgun had not been properly secured inside a home, allowing the juvenile to access it.
John Mutcherson, 39, of Mays Landing, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child by allowing access to a loaded firearm, tampering with evidence and a disorderly persons offense of allowing a minor access to a loaded firearm. He was released on a summons.
The juvenile was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, aggravated assault, terroristic threats, juvenile possession of handgun ammunition, possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a firearm on school property and possession of a firearm by a minor.
Police said all firearms found inside the home were taken into custody and secured.
