(AP) - Law enforcement officials are making iteasier for fugitives in northern New Jersey to turn themselves in.
The program is already in place in Camden, where more than 2,000 people surrendered last year. The national program was begun inCleveland in 2005 and has spread to New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania,Michigan, South Carolina, Indiana, Tennessee, Arizona, Delaware andthe District of Columbia.
The northern New Jersey program will be hosted at BethanyBaptist Church and will affect mainly nonviolent offenders in Essexand Union counties. Fugitives with outstanding warrants can havetheir cases heard on site or be given a voucher for a future courtdate.
