Police in Newark say they are going to enforce the city's to cut down on stolen cars.
According to police, so far this year, nearly 300 cars were stolen when drivers left them unattended and running.
Drivers violating the rules could get a $250 fine. And fines will increase for subsequent offenses. It will cost $500 for a second offense and $1,000 for a third offense.
There are some exceptions to the law. A car can be left idling for 15 minutes if the car hasn’t been running for at least three hours prior. But the temperature outside must be less than 25 degrees.
