The Essex County Prosecutor?s Office has filed charges against a Newark teacher accused of having sex with one of her students.
The prosecutor?s office says 31-year-old Tracy Booth, a teacher at the Newark Boys Chorus School, had sex with her 13-year-old student. The prosecutor?s office became aware of the allegations from an anonymous tip called into the Department of Family and Children.
Booth is accused of having sex with the boy at her home in Morris County and at a Newark hotel. The prosecutor?s office claims the relationship started last fall and ended in February.
?She was teaching him English at least two of the years there. Our investigation has indicated that she has an affiliation with an after school program in Newark, which this male may have been attending at the time,? said Essex County Prosecutor Paula Dow.
Meanwhile, the school?s headmaster says Booth has been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation. He adds that all students, parents and faculty have been notified of the allegations. Booth is being held on $200,000 bond. She could face up to 50 years behind bars if convicted.
