Hundreds of students in Newark have planned a show of support for a teen who was killed a thousand miles away.
Students at Newark's Rafael Hernandez School asked the faculty for permission to wear hoodies on Friday. They aim to show support for support for Trayvon Martin, who was wearing one when he was shot and killed last month in Florida.
He was shot and killed by George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watchman who claimed self defense, although Martin was unarmed at the time. Zimmerman remains uncharged in Martin's death.
The school normally does not permit students to wear hooded sweatshirts, but the faculty agreed to waive the policy for one day to teach students about peaceful protests. The protest will begin at 8 a.m. Friday morning.
