The streets of Newark pulsed with salsa Sunday as crowds gathered to celebrate Puerto Rican heritage and culture.
The 47th annual Puerto Rican Day parade drew thousands, including U.S. senators, the governor, members of Congress and Newark?s mayor.
New Jersey is home to nearly 1.5 million registered Hispanics, 25 percent of whom are Puerto Rican.
Red, white and blue Puerto Rican flags flew as some locals turned their attention to honoring the small island where their ancestors came from. They danced and enjoyed Puerto Rican food.
