The day after Black Friday, families in Newark headed to a local soup kitchen for "Warm Saturday."

St. Ann?s Soup Kitchen in Newark served up more than just hot meals in the church basement Saturday. Some 500 coats were handed out to those in need for the upcoming winter months. With the economy in crisis, more middle-class families were among those who waited in line.

"A lot of them come here crying and I cry with them,? says St. Ann?s Soup Kitchen volunteer Cheryl Daney. ?If I can offer my services, I do.?

With harsher economic conditions on the horizon, the soup kitchen is expecting to see a record turnout in the upcoming months.

The soup kitchen?s goal is to bring warmth to hundreds of families, but to also build self-confidence among those in need.
