Members of the Newark community put out a call to stop the cycle of violence Sunday after spending the past week mourning the loss of three young people in execution-style murders.
Three are in custody in connection to the killing of 20-year-old Dashon Harvey, 18-year-old Terrance Aeriel and 20-year-old Iofemi Hightower.
The Essex County Prosecutor?s Office says there are a total of six suspects in the case. An intense manhunt continues for a fourth suspect, Rodolfo Godinez.
At Metropolitan Baptist Church, Rev. David Jefferson called on everyone to play a part in making Newark a peaceful, safe community. "We as a group of people will take back the lives of our children," he said from the pulpit.
Debora Weaver, a mother of four, says it starts with the parents. She says expectations have to be raised and that parents must provide their children with a nurturing environment to meet those expectations.
Community members say children need to be taught that taking someone else?s life is cowardly.
