Authorities say a carjacking suspect who led police on a chase had to be rescued by officers after the vehicle crashed and he eventually became pinned under a police cruiser.
Newark police say 22-year-old city resident Jared Walker carjacked a van early Tuesday. The victim escaped and called police, who soon began pursuing the stolen vehicle.
Walker refused to pull over but eventually collided with a police car and crashed into an empty lot. Walker then tried to hide in some snow-covered grass. But an officer in a police car looking for Walker inadvertently drove over the suspect, pinning Walker beneath the cruiser.
Walker now faces kidnapping, carjacking, robbery and weapons charges.
