Eight people were injured Sunday when a porch staircase collapsed at a Newark home, according to Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé.

The incident happened around 6:29 p.m. at a home on Kearny Street near Summer Avenue.

According to Fragé, the victims were transported to University Hospital for evaluation of minor injuries.

It was not immediately clear how the staircase collapsed.
