Newark officials gathered on Thursday to highlight the city’s Summer Youth Employment Program.

The SYEP offers work experience for young people and teaches them valuable employment skills and financial literacy. It also provides Newark residents from the ages of 18 to 24 with some seasonal income.

News 12 spoke with a 20-year-old woman who is part of the music production program at Galaxy Sound Studios about her experience with the program.

"I come in and it's fun and it feels comfortable and everyone’s teaching you here,” she said. “They want you to have the drive, the freedom, the tools that you need to be able to compete and be able to perform and just do your best in these types of roles."

This year, Newark hired 2,100 students.

More information about the program can be found HERE.
