Lauryn Hill was one of 17 performers nominated Wednesday for induction into the 2026 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
The Newark native released her classic "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" 28 years ago — the first hip-hop album to win album of the year at the 1999 Grammys. Artists or bands become eligible for nomination 25 years after releasing their first commercial recording.
Other nominees include Phil Collins, Mariah Carey, INXS, Iron Maiden, Luther Vandross, Shakira and the Wu-Tang Clan.
"This diverse list of talented nominees recognizes the ever-evolving faces and sounds of rock and roll and its continued impact on youth culture," John Sykes, chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, said in a statement.
The inductees will be revealed in April, along with those entering the Hall under three special committee categories: Musical Influence, Musical Excellence and the Ahmet Ertegun Non-Performer Award. This year's induction ceremony will take place in the fall, with exact dates and ticket sale details to follow soon.
