Three people were shot to death in a span of 12 hours on the streets of Newark Saturday.
The first murder took place on Ferry Street around 3 a.m. when 24-year-old Deivisson Campos was shot in the face and chest. Police say Campos was murdered by thugs looking to rob him.
Police say 12 hours later, 28-year-old Jaronne Culver and 16-year-old Bashir Davis shot each other to death on Hamilton Avenue in broad daylight.
The three deaths in one day give the city an unwanted jump in its murder rate, which has been down this year. So far, there have been 22 murders in Newark - nine less than this time in 2007.
Residents like Daryl Young doesn't believe the low rates will last.
"Wait till the summertime comes," he says. "It'll raise again, I promise you."
