A Newark man has been sentenced to 21 years in prison after being found guilty of killing a woman who tried to stop him from fleeing police in 2021.

Lando Marc, 34, was attempting to drive away after police responded to a domestic violence incident at a gathering in Irvington on Dec. 9, 2021, when Jenny Philistin, 27, jumped onto the hood of his parked car to prevent him from leaving.

He sped away with Philistin on the hood of the vehicle, ran a stop sign and drove the wrong way down a one-way street, according to prosecutors.

Marc lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a parked car, killing Philistin, before fleeing the scene.

He remained at large for more than a month before surrendering to authorities on Jan. 14, 2022.

Marc was found guilty of first-degree aggravated manslaughter, second-degree leaving the scene of an accident and related offenses on Dec. 18, 2025.

"Jenny Philistin's family will carry the consequences of the defendant's actions for the rest of their lives. We hope this sentence brings them some measure of comfort as they continue to heal from this devastating loss," said Assistant Prosecutor Ibn Alston.
