Over 450 flights were delayed Thursday at Newark Liberty International Airport, impacting arriving and departing flights.
“I arrived here and not sure why it’s delayed but I guess everybody’s flights are being delayed tonight,” said Uche Alozie.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the issues are due to equipment and staffing.
“They delayed it at first to 5:05 p.m. and they delayed it again to 5:45 p.m., I think,” said passenger, Tristan.
“They first said it was one hour delayed, then two and a half hours delayed,” said passenger, Shyamana.
This is one day after the airport experienced an “equipment outage,” which also impacted flights at John F. Kennedy, Teterboro and LaGuardia airports.
One passenger was caught in the delay two days in a row.
“Yesterday we were told - I flew in yesterday from Orlando - traffic in the air and problems with that, and spent 30 minutes in the air,” said passenger, Yarelyn Duarte.
Passengers are now just waiting to make it to their destination.
“So I’m just waiting to see what happens. [It] says we might land around 9 p.m., maybe,” said Duarte.
“I was going to see my mother, so it’s ruining her time,” said Alozie.
The FAA says that this ground delay began about 3 p.m. Thursday and is expected to continue until 1 a.m. Friday.
Travelers are urged to check with their airlines to find out the status of their flights.
