As of 1 p.m. this afternoon, WBGO Jazz 88.3 is being broadcast from a brand new antenna located in Times Square. Before the new transmitter was switched on, WBGO was only heard in the greater Newark area.
Rhonda Hamilton, who began spinning records at the station in 1979, is the only original DJ left. She's thrilled that more people are now able to enjoy the public radio station's smooth jazz.
With more listeners now able to tune in from northern New Jersey and all five boroughs of New York, WBGO has become the region's only full-time player of jazz.
