A statewide burn ban will be in effect from Monday until May 14.

New York residents cannot burn brush, leaves and yard debris. Large open fires are also prohibited.

Officials say the ban aims to reduce the chance of wildfires during the high-risk spring season.

Small campfires, small cooking fires and backyard fire pits using charcoal or dry wood are allowed.
