The New York Red Bulls are heading to Columbus, Ohio, this weekend for the start of the Major League Soccer Cup playoffs.
After earning results in six of their last seven matches, the Red Bulls secured the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference as the push for the MLS Cup begins.
“I think we’re just all really excited to get on the field during playoffs,” says Red Bulls captain Sean Davis. “This is the time of year where every player wants to get on the field, competing for their club. This group has come a long way.”
Davis, a Long Branch native, says that this season has been about overcoming adversity with both the pandemic and a midseason coaching change.
“We’re going to put our best foot forward. I’m really confident in our group and in the momentum that we’ve built over the last few weeks. So, it’s going to be an exciting game. Going to Columbus isn’t easy, but I think we’re all up for it and looking forward to it,” Davis says.
Despite the challenges 2020 has presented, the Red Bulls have been able to make a difference off the field as well by raising awareness for the group Tackle Kids Cancer.
“It’s been so fun, even despite these circumstances, to work together again with the Tackle Kids Cancer initiative,” Davis says. “We’re taking no years off in that regard. So, I’m really proud of both sides coming together to make that happen.”
The Red Bulls take on Columbus in the MLS Cup playoffs Saturday at 3 p.m.
