The new year is bringing about some new prices for a variety of items.
Automobiles
Cars are already a big expense, but consumer experts say that they could get more expensive in 2019.
Tariffs on imported auto parts could hit 25 percent next month. The Center for Automotive Research estimates that this could drive the price of a new car up as much as $6,800. But the United States and China are still talking, and experts say that it is possible that the trade war could calm down.
Fuel
The United States Energy Information Administration forecasts that gas prices will drop 23 cents a gallon this year. This is after a year of paying more at the pump.
Housing
Housing prices are starting 2019 at 8 percent higher than a year ago, according to real estate experts. While rising interest rates may slow things down, the National Association of Realtors predicts housing prices will still go up by about 3 percent in 2019.
Health care
Health care prices could be a bit cheaper for the first time in years. Average premiums under the Affordable Care Act are down by about 1.5 percent. Premiums vary based on where you live; New Jersey did better than New York and Connecticut, with the average premium going down 13 percent.
Coffee
Some coffee drinkers may have noticed higher prices for their morning cup of Joe. But experts say that this has less to do with government policy and more to do with the dry weather in Brazil. But coffee futures are already up by about 8 percent.
