The high temperature in northern New Jersey on Sunday was 42 degrees, but the wind chill will make it feel like zero to below 15 degrees by late night.
Shelters throughout New Jersey, like the Goodwill Rescue Mission, offer the homeless temporary relief from the cold weather. However, officials say there?s no guarantee.
?When the temperatures outside go down, the numbers inside the Goodwill Mission here in Newark go up,? said Dave Jenkins, a resident at the mission.
Because people can develop hypothermia during these harsh weather conditions, they are reminded to dress in layers, keep indoor temperatures at 68 degrees or higher and drink plenty of fluids, but not alcohol since it can speed up the loss of body heat.
