New Jersey tourism spending hit $51.9B in 2025, state says

The state said visitor activity supported 514,581 New Jersey jobs and generated $5.5 billion in state and local taxes.

New Jersey welcomed 124.2 million visitors in 2025, generating $51.9 billion in tourism spending, according to a new state report.

The New Jersey Division of Travel & Tourism released the annual 2025 Economic Impact of Visitors to New Jersey study Wednesday at the New Jersey Tourism Industry Association’s Advocacy Day.

The report found visitation increased from 123.7 million visitors in 2024, with day-trip visitation rising 2.3% to 71.6 million. Overnight visitation dropped 2.1%.

Visitor spending rose 2.7% from 2024, led by food and beverage spending at $14.9 billion. Lodging generated $14 billion, while retail spending reached $8.81 billion and recreation spending totaled $6.21 billion.

The state said visitor activity supported 514,581 New Jersey jobs and generated $5.5 billion in state and local taxes.

Tourism officials forecast visitor volume will rise 2% in 2026 to 126.7 million, with spending expected to increase 3.2% to $53.6 billion.

The state also highlighted its “Where the World Meets Its Match” tourism campaign tied to the FIFA World Cup 2026. New York New Jersey Stadium in East Rutherford is scheduled to host eight matches, beginning June 13 and ending with the final on July 19.
