Architects are adapting one of Saddle River's historic buildings to modern times, while preserving the building's history.
The Bishop House dates back to the 1800s.
The building originally served as a place for community gatherings.
Residents say it's still a source of pride.
"Saddle River is known for four things: incredibly low taxes, large parcels of land, being recognized as having the best elementary school in the entire county, and most of all, its charming and quaint historical village, and this represents one of the iconic buildings in that historical village," says Mayor Albert J. Kurpis.

Some of the upgrades include air conditioning and a handicapped bathroom.
The project is expected to take about six months.
The house will be used as a meeting and event space once it's completed.
