The wives and girlfriends of New Jersey Devils players threw a baby shower for soon-to-be military mothers at the Prudential Center in Newark on Thursday.
They partnered with a group called Operation Shower.
"When we came to Jersey two years ago, the organization really didn't have anything in that area for the wives and girlfriends to celebrate," said Shannon Allen, Devils’ goaltender Jake Allen's wife. "So, I thought it would be a perfect fit. There are some military bases around here, and it's a good opportunity to show some support."
News 12's Kristie Reeter hosted the event, highlighting the unique challenges that military families face.
"It is nice to have more than one mom community. It does help a lot," said military mom Azaria Stevenson.
The guests left with clothing and essentials for when their bundles of joy arrive.
"I'm actually getting induced tomorrow...He'll be home hopefully at least two weeks up to a month, and then back to business as usual," said military mom Anika Bochenek about her husband's leave for her pregnancy.
