The New Jersey Devils have helped a gym reopen and make exercise more affordable to the public.
“Now our community has a place to go, where they can work out, get fit and get healthy,” says East Orange Mayor Ted Green.
The Pride Power Fitness Center is back in business with a new look and updated equipment, provided in part by the Devils.
“There’s a lot of people who can’t afford the gyms and you can come right here to our Fellowship Center and get a good workout,” says fitness instructor Deric Britton.
Britton says that membership costs just $25 per year or only $2 per month and it is COVID-19 compliant.
“Only five people per workout,” Britton says. “Our rule is wipe down before and after.”
Mayor Green says that there is now no excuse to skip the gym.
“You come here and you get on the elliptical. You can com here and do your arms – anything to keep people [healthy] – especially here in my city. We’re going to promote it.”
The fitness center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. Guests must sign up for a time slot ahead of time.
