Dec. 4 has been designated “National Cookie Day” across the United States.
The word “cookie” is derived from the Dutch word “koekie” meaning “little cake,” according to
NationalDayCalendar.com.
New Jersey does not have a state-designated cookie, but News 12 New Jersey went to Splurge Bakery in Millburn to find out what New Jerseyans’ favorite cookie could be.
“Snickerdoodle to me, it’s just a very traditional, local kind of flavor,” said one cookie fan.
“I’ll give it to chocolate chip, because there’s a million different ways people can enjoy them,” said another.
Cookies arrived in America in the 17th century, according to
NationalDayCalendar.com. The website says that macaroons and gingerbread cookies were among the popular early American cookies.
“National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day” is celebrated Aug. 4.
