There is a tentative agreement to avert a strike between New Jersey American Water and the state’s largest water utility union.

The deal is awaiting a vote by union workers.

It saves over 500,000 residents and thousands of businesses from a strike that could have severely impacted both water and wastewater services in seven counties.

The current contract was set to expire on Friday.
