A new mural on Adams Street in Hoboken celebrates local women who stood out in Hoboken’s history.
Among those showcased are Maria Pepe, who fought for the right for girls to play in Little League when she was 12 years old in 1972.
Pepe attended the unveiling.
She said, “While the photo has me holding a bat, it's really about equality and recreation and how far the town has come in terms of providing equal opportunity for all children in our town to participate in sports."
The two other figures featured in the mural are Depression-era photographer Dorothea Lange and African-American nightclub performer Dorothy McNeil.
