Blind New Jersey residents are happy they may soon have an easier time keeping track of their cash.
A federal judge ruled Tuesday that American currency discriminates against the blind. The judge ordered the U.S. Treasury Department to create currency for blind individuals. Many blind residents say a new form of currency would give them another measure of independence.
Blind-friendly currency could mean bills in new sizes or imprinted with Braille. The Treasury Department has 10 days to start working on the new currency. Meanwhile, Treasury Department officials have argued against changing the currency, saying it would make money more susceptible to counterfeiting.
