New Jersey American Water shut off services to 20 homes and an apartment complex Tuesday due to water main breaks in Neptune City.
Crews are on the scene at Sylvania and Brighton avenues. First reports about the issue came in just after 7 a.m.
Police Lt. Michael Vollbrecht says about 20 homes are affected, as well as one apartment complex. He says the break isn't along Highway 33, which is a major artery to a trauma hospital.
“New Jersey American Water is still evaluating the whole situation, they haven’t opened the hole up yet,” said Vollbrecht just before noon. “But hopefully, within the next hour or two, they’ll be able to open a hole and see exactly what the cause of the water main break was.”
Crews tell News 12 if all goes to plan, the road should be reopened and water restored by 6 p.m.
