The Waterford School District in Camden County is shifting to remote learning for the next three weeks because more than 60% of teachers are out sick following a staff appreciation luncheon.
The catered staff appreciation luncheon happened last Thursday, and ended with nearly 100 teachers and staff members sick.
All teachers are showing signs of a foodborne illness.
The school had to go remote because it couldn't adequately staff the building.
The meal was catered by a restaurant that has since been closed for cleaning.
"The establishment voluntarily closed so that we could investigate perhaps what went wrong here," says Caryelle Lasher, of the Camden County Health Department.
While the school buildings are closed, the facilities will undergo a deep cleaning to make sure everything is safe when students return later this month.
