Hundreds of homeowners in Colts Neck say they are being put in danger of terror attacks due to the Navy?s plan to create public housing at the Earle Naval Base.
The base is the largest ammunition storage facility in America and provides the majority of the ammo used by soldiers fighting in Iraq. The Navy intends on handing over 300 empty homes on the base back to the builder in order to rent to the public.
In the past, the Navy has insisted the homes will be fenced off and kept separate from the base. Residents still fear the base could become a magnet for terrorism and public housing could open vulnerabilities.
?I think there's a misconception that people are going to pass through our front gate and go to this housing,? Capt. Gary Maynard told News 12 New Jersey in October. ?That's patently incorrect.?
Homeowners and Navy representatives met face to face Tuesday to discuss the proposal. The homeowners trashed the idea.
"I really don't understand what kind of idiots devised this stupid plan," said one angry resident.
