After a monthslong deployment, 1,500 soldiers were welcomed home at Jersey Mike's Arena in Piscataway.

New Jersey National Guard soldiers and their families packed into the area located on the campus of Rutgers University.

The soldiers are part of the 44th Infantry Brigade Combat Team and spent several months overseas in Iraq and Syria.

Their mission supported Operation Inherent Resolve. It was the largest deployment of New Jersey Army National Guard soldiers since 2008.

"I have a couple young ones now. My daughter was born while I was down in the Middle East...It's great being home. It takes some time to reintegrate with your family, but overall it's been an amazing experience to be back home again," said Capt. Nick Priessnitz, company commander for the New Jersey National Guard.
